My name is Myriam Aburto, a 23 yr-old freelance Animator and Illustrator from Dracut, MA.
Here you will find a plethora of drawings of really anything that comes to my head when I pick up my pencil (or stylus...whichever I have in my hand at the time). I have a Bachelor's of Science degree in Media Arts and Animation from The New England Institute of Art back in December of 2012 and I'm also an unpublished author who writes alternative stories for those on the internet to see.....which is just a fancy to say I'm a fanfiction writer. Most of my characters that I've drawn first came into existence when I thought of fanfictions, mostly for Avatar: The Last Airbender, Harry Potter, and Legend of Korra.
Speaking of Avatar: The Last Airbender, I am a huge fan!! This show was actually THE show that made me decide to pursue animation as a career. I love the characters, story, and how the animation is really so fluid; the show has become a huge part of my life and I really can't see myself being without it. Thank you Mike and Bryan for making such an amazing series for continuing Aang's legacy in Legend of Korra.
It's not just those cartoons that had me picking animation up for a career, oh no, growing up I remember drawing Hey!Arnold fanart as well, and also Pokemon fanart. Though, being all of 9ish years old you can imagine how they looked. Like most 90's kids, I grew up watching what is now referred to as Old School Nickelodeon and I remember trying to draw Arnold and Ash, and also being an avid watcher of Yu-Gi-Oh in later television years, I tried drawing Yugi too....they turned out terrible. But I never stopped drawing, in 7th grade I asked a friend of mine to "teach me" how to draw as well as she did but she refused so I ended up teaching myself and kept practicing and as a result went through a lot of notebooks being filled with nothing but doodles. I distinctly remember one of my teachers saying while we were in the middle of watching a movie, "Stop drawing pictures" and I looked at her like she was the Thing from the Black Lagoon.
Throughout my lifetime, drawing (and writing) has become more than just making fan-characters for fun. Both forms of art have become part of me; drawing allows me to express my feelings and writing stories allows me to put my feelings into words that are engaging to those reading it.
I hope to take my career to further heights and improving my skills any which way I can, and I can't wait to get started!
~Myriam
This is usually what I look like trying to think of what to draw/animate/or write. Or when I look at Korean boy bands like Big Bang, MBLAQ, or Super Junior. |
